The lighter side of Barbara

  • Hobbies: Reading, C-Span junkie, attending concerts and theatre and spending time with relatives and friends.
  • Loves folk art; listens to NPR, country music, Southern Gospel and the Blues.
  • Spent 8 years (1960-68) attending Elvis parties in Memphis at Graceland. Published magazine in 1977 when Elvis died. Still sells them today.
  • Breast cancer survivor. Also survived childhood burn at age 18 months and spent next 14 months in hospital.
  • Two brothers, Larry and Robert James and one sister, Carolyn Driver; two nephews and two nieces and hundreds of cousins. (Maternal grandmother was one of 16 children.)
  • Greatest joy: Working with young folks, especially disadvantaged and helping the elderly. (Mom said as a child, "I loved old men and I still do!")
  • My Heroes: The brave men and women who serve in the military, veterans, law enforcement, fire fighters, rescue squad members, teachers (they are all underpaid) and the working men and women who get up EVERY day and go to work — some under very harsh conditions.
